Clifford Gilmore recognizes Oakland's potential to be a great city. He believes Oakland's issues can be addressed through a partnership of committed citizens, business and city leadership. Some of his ideas include:
Public Safety
Solving our public safety problems requires a wide range of creative and thoughtful solutions. Clifford is committed to effectively implementing community policing and increasing the number of officers through development of a long-range strategy. The plan must include consideration of attrition, incentives for officers to reside in Oakland, and a cost-saving solution to managing overtime.
Economic Development
Revitalization of our neighborhood commercial corridors is essential to creating a vibrant community. Creating employment opportunities for residents will increase our tax base and decrease crime. Clifford's emphasis on neighborhood serving commercial will expand employment opportunities for residents, and create a positive business environment for the city.
Maintain Industrial Land Inventory
Our district has a unique opportunity to capture emerging industries being developed in the green technology sector. Clifford will support existing partnerships and develop new ones with businesses and institutions in this emerging field. He will preserve our industrial parcels for these new businesses resulting in expanded employment opportunities for residents and increased tax revenues to the city.
Resource Conservation
District 7 possesses tremendous natural resources, which are unique, add to the character of our neighborhoods, and must be protected. Clifford will fight to protect and enhance open space, creeks, bay shorelines and expansion of parks in the district, thereby making them more accessible to residents in the district and throughout the city.
